Go Deeper in Technology world

                Technology is like tree that grow over and over. One day after my second TLL course, I had a workshop. It related to technology. It was from MUGI, Microsoft. They told us about how to engage technology in learning process. Here I will share about it. 

1.       Windows Movie maker

Visualization is need by visual learner. We can use movie as media for teaching. Somehow, the video we need is not provide. It means that we need to make it by ourselves. By using windows movie maker 2.04  will help us to make a learning video. 

2.       Microsoft power point 2010

It is the new news for me to make movie from Microsoft Power Point 2010. The way to make is the same like we make a presentation. The difference is we can change the type of our presentation as video.

 

3.       Mouse Mischief

This one is also new for me. This one is the menu that we can use for teaching. It is like we can make an interactive game. In one computer we can plug up to 50 mouses that can use by students. They can interact in one monitor. In simple way, mouse mischief is like polling system. The mouse is the tool to give the polling. This can be used for quiz. For further please contact me, and I will tell you.

That is all the new things I have known. However they can help us to make our teaching interactive, fun and meaningful.

2nd Meeting is still fun learning for PETA

 This week is the second meeting of PETA. As usual, after the class my friends and I will be assigned to make a journal reflection or called as e-reflection. I am happy to do this assignment. Instead of me, some of my friends do not like to do this kind of assignment. They do not like writing. Moreover in this semester, most of the assignments are writing. I have different thoughts from my friend; writing is kind of happy things to do. Actually we  are lucky, because we have to write about reflection that will be about ourselves.

            In this second meeting, we watched a video about thematic teaching in elementary school. We were asked to identify whether thematic is effective or ineffective to be taught in class. Then, we discussed about the movie. My friends and I agreed that thematic is effective for some cases and also ineffective for some cases. In teaching there are four main activities; they are opening, activities, assessment and closing. Based on that video, the opening of the class is effective and meaningful. The teacher asked students pray first before start the lesson. In another cases, the video shows us that the objective of the lesson are not reached well. It is because, in one meeting teacher must deliver some lessons in one time. However, as a teacher we know the best for our students.

 

             The last activity we did was making a lesson plan. We have made it when we were in the first semester. Unfortunately, I have forgotten how to make it. Because we worked in a group, so that I can discuss how to make lesson plan. We could finish a lesson plan for one basic competence with two standard competences in twenty minutes. Give applause for my friends and I. Hopefully the next meeting will be greater than this day.

Does PETA mean map?

           This journal is actually must be submitted last week in our class blog, but some of us posted it in private blog. It was just little bit misunderstanding. Well, now is the time for me giving reflection about one of my courses called PETA. When I was in the first semester, I guessed PETA is kind of course that discuss about map. I know it does not make sense.

            PETA stands for Principles of Effective Teaching and Assessment. In this course, we have a new lecturer. She is from east of Indonesia. Her name is quite long, Martinse Constantina Nabo Bois. Lucky me, I can remember her name. My friends and I can call her Ms. Ine. First meeting with her, reminded me about my previous lecturer, Bu Gum. She is one of my beloved lecturer but she has gone. The way she talks is the same like Bu Gum`s. I am feeling happy because it seems like I can meet Bu Gum again.

            In this course, I will learn how to be an effective teacher. The same as UET and LTM, in here we will focus on how to teach. The keyword is effective. How to be effective teacher and how effective teaching is. In the whole of 3rd semester my friends and I will know the answers are. I hope we can apply it in the real life. 

            In the first meeting, we chose lecturer assistant. The one who is chosen will take responsible of the whole things related to PETA course and help Ms. Ine for this course. Fortunately, I chose myself as the lucky one. My first duty was listing my friends’ name for making group. The next duty is write class rules. Those were not heavy duty and I am happy to do that.

            At the first, we were asked to write our expectations for this course in a piece of paper. I wrote “through this course I can be an effective teacher who can do an effective teaching, and of course by the end of this course I hope I can get A”. Even though I do not care whether my friends call me as a score oriented, because I do care about my score.

            The activities of this class are as fun as another course. Finally I have known that PETA is not a course that discussed about map. I really enjoy this course. I hope every single thing I have done for this course and also for another courses will help me to be the new generation of teacher.

Learn How to Teach Language #1

In this new semester I have seven new courses. One of them is Language Teaching Method. My lecturer for this course is Ms. Vera. I love to be taught by her, because she can make the class fun. Language teaching method is usually called LTM. At first I do not know what will it be about. After the second meeting, I have known that in this course we will focus on how to teach language especially for teaching language.

            In the first meeting, our lecturer asked us about approach, method and technique. Those words are familiar for me. It is because in the last Ramadan, friends of mine gave me a book about teaching language.  I read about methods of teaching, such as silent way, suggestopedia, etc. I also read about approach, method and technique which are now is being discussed in LTM course. So that, it was easy for me to express my opinion about the three terminologies.

            My friends and I were given a video about teaching methods. We are assigned to make a poster for one method in a group. My group will discuss about silent way. After I watched the video, I practiced one of the methods, it is audio lingual method. I taught my students, who are 4 grader. Before I watched that video, I felt confuse about how to teach my students. I used to give them explanation and assignment then play games. I never thought about their listening and speaking skill.

            According to me, LTM is almost the same like another course; Use English in Teaching (UET) and Principle of Effective Teaching and Assessment (PETA). I meant, they are complete each other. In LTM course, I learn the teaching methods. PETA will tell me how to be effective teacher using the methods I have learned in LTM course. In UET course, I learn how to give instruction according the teaching method I use. It is pretty good.

            Honestly, I was afraid of thinking about school experience in this semester. As I know, my friends and I will be assigned to be teacher assistant, but we have to be ready to teach. Fortunately, because of this course I become more confident to do school experience to teacher assistant and ready for teaching if I am asked to do that.

            One thing that still I am worry about is score for this course. Some of my seniors said that, it is hard to get A from Ms. Vera. My target GPA for this semester is higher than 3,78 (my first semester GPA, my second semester GPA and my cumulative GPA) at least magna cum laude. I do not think that it is impossible. The most important thing is I have to fight for this course and also the others.

Being Human Needs Learn Humanistic

Friday, 23rd September 2011 was my first day having Humanistic Study class. At first, I was wonder what will it be. Humanistic is come from human, so that I assumed that it will talk more about human and all the things related. My assumption is right. In here we will discuss about human, specific on individual, cultural animal and homo religious. Cultural animal was out of my mind that relates to the study of human.

First meeting was opened simply. Usually, in the first meeting of the semester lecturer will have introducing session. My lecturer, Pak Hatim had not it. This is the first time of some of my friends and I taught by him. He said that knowing name and further about one another is one of the main objectives of this course. Even though we had no introducing time, we already have known each for a year.

Considered Pak Hatim`s statement about knowing further about each other and meaning of our name given by our parents is, I become so curious. What is the meaning of my name. My parents have told me that my name means the first daughter who will be the first in everywhere, in other word let`s say be the best of every single thing. Well, whether it is true or not, let me approve that by the time going of this course.

In the first meeting, we also discussed about religion. Our lecturer asked us if we are true as Muslims or Christians. He said that are Muslims or Christians because of our parents` religion?. Suddenly I was silent and no more idea to say. Considered my knowledge about Islam is still low. Hopefully by the end of this course I will know more about me myself further. Honestly, I am still looking for about myself or usually called “mencari jati diri”.

Talking about religion is sensitive according to me. . I live with my friends who are Christians.Until now, we live in a peace. It is because of our respect to each other. Differences  are needed in our life, because it will complete each of us and make our life colorful.In this course we will talk about it frequently. Hope it will not make us fight one another because of the difference perspective. As I know different perspective is common in a discussion. When Pak Hatim handed a questionnaire, the last question is about our expectation after this course, I wrote that I hope my class will still live in peace. 

I also asked about the relation between humanistic study and teaching learning. Then my lecturer told me that at school we will meet students from different culture, so we need to know how to face that difference by learning this course so that the learning process will run well. That is all about the story of first meeting in the first meeting of Humanistic study. See you in the next reflection.
